Back to messaging or digital channels Connect your agent to Kore.ai AI for Work, the Employee Experience (EX) platform, as a bidirectional messaging integration. Employees reach the agent through a published Autonomous Agent in AI for Work. AI for Work calls Artemis through a generated endpoint and signs every request with a connection secret and a user identity token. The setup requires:
  1. Create the connection in Artemis and copy its two generated values.
  2. Link the connection in AI for Work and publish the agent.
  3. Validate the integration with signed requests.
After setup, Artemis verifies each AI for Work request, scopes the session to the connection, the verified email, and the conversation context, and answers with the agent deployed in the bound environment. Important considerations
  • The Connection ID selects the connection: AI for Work sends each message to /api/v1/channels/ai4w/{connectionId}/message. Artemis generates the ID, so you never choose a routing value.
  • The Connection Secret is reveal-once: Artemis shows it only at creation. If you lose it or suspect exposure, replace the connection or rotate the secret before you send more traffic.
  • Every request needs two authentication layers: An HMAC signature made with the Connection Secret, and a trusted AI for Work identity JWT. Artemis validates each one independently.
  • Pause and Resume control traffic: Select Pause in the connection header to stop all AI for Work traffic.
Artemis labels this channel AIforWork. This article uses AIforWork for on-screen labels and AI for Work for the product.

Prerequisites

Confirm these before you start.
  • Administrator access to the AI for Work Admin Console, with permission to create and publish Autonomous Agents in the target workspace.
  • Artemis project access with permission to open Deployments -> Channels, and a deployed agent in the environment you intend to bind.
  • A server-side secret store in AI for Work for the Connection Secret.

Create the connection in Artemis

Create the connection first. Artemis generates the endpoint and secret that AI for Work needs.
  1. Open Artemis and select the project.
  2. Go to Deployments -> Channels -> AIforWork -> + New. The New AIforWork Connection dialog opens, with the setup guide on the left and the fields on the right.
  3. Configure the fields:
  4. Select Create.
  5. Copy both generated values before you close the reveal dialog.

Register the Artemis connection as the backend of an Autonomous Agent. Use the AI for Work environment that matches the Artemis connection, and keep development, staging, and production on separate connections and secrets.
1

Create the Autonomous Agent

  1. Open the AI for Work Admin Console, switch to the target workspace, and go to AI Agents -> Autonomous Agents.
  2. Select Create agent, then create the agent from scratch.
  3. Enter the agent name and its purpose. AI for Work uses the purpose for query routing.
2

Add the Artemis credentials

  1. In Configure agentic app, select Add using credentials.
  2. On the Link using credentials dialog, paste the Endpoint URL and the Connection Secret.
  3. Select Run and Save.
Don’t trim the /message suffix, swap in another Connection ID, or use a generic AI for Work webhook path.
3

Set the execution mode

  1. Select a mode and test the connection.
  2. If you select Async, set the Callback Base URL on the Artemis connection’s Configuration tab, so Artemis can deliver responses and proactive notifications back to AI for Work.
Async suits agents that run longer than the 60-second sync timeout.
4

Publish the agent

Select Continue, then Publish, and choose everyone in the account or limited users. See publishing your agent.

Authentication

AI for Work must send both authentication layers on every request. Artemis rejects a request that fails either one.
1

Preserve the raw request body

Compute the signature over the exact UTF-8 bytes you send. A gateway or client that parses and re-serializes JSON changes the bytes and breaks the signature.
2

Sign with the Connection Secret

Compute HMAC-SHA256 with the abl_cs_ secret over inbound:{nonce}.{timestamp}.{rawBody}, and encode the digest as lowercase hex. Send the same nonce and timestamp in their headers.
3

Send a trusted identity JWT

Use a platform-approved issuer and audience, and include the sub, email, accountId, and authLevel claims.
4

Keep the account stable

On the first valid request, Artemis can bind the connection to the JWT accountId. It then rejects requests from another account unless an administrator changes that policy.

Message request

Send each message as an HTTPS POST with a JSON body. Artemis keeps conversation continuity from three values together: the connection, the verified email, and agentContextId.

Response modes

Select a default mode in AI for Work. Send the X-Response-Mode header to override it for one request. Artemis reports the mode it used in X-Response-Mode-Used. For async delivery, the callback must be an approved HTTPS destination, and it must verify Artemis’s outbound HMAC signature before it accepts the payload.

Files

AI for Work sends file references, and Artemis downloads them server-side.
  • Send each file as a name, a MIME type, and a short-lived signed HTTPS URL. Never embed file bytes or reusable storage credentials.
  • File names allow up to 255 characters, and signed URLs up to 2,048 characters.
  • Every download passes SSRF checks and the tenant and project attachment policy for host, MIME type, size, and per-session limits.

Custom metadata

AI for Work can pass custom metadata to the agent. In Configure agentic app, open Meta Data and add the keys you want to send. Read them in Artemis with the expression for each surface, shown here for an email key.

Validate the integration

Run these checks from AI for Work, or from any client that signs requests the same way.
  1. If your integration supports a preflight, call the connection’s /info endpoint with the same HMAC and JWT chain. Confirm it returns connection metadata without the secret.
  2. Send one signed text message with a fresh nonce, a current timestamp, and a trusted JWT. Confirm the expected X-Response-Mode-Used and an agent response.
  3. Send a second message with the same verified email and agentContextId. Confirm the agent resumes the same session and uses the earlier context.
  4. Confirm each of these fails without starting an agent turn: a changed raw body, a stale timestamp, a replayed nonce, an invalid JWT issuer or account, an unapproved callback, and a rejected file.

Manage the channel connection

Open a connection from Deployments -> Channels -> AIforWork to manage it. The page has a header, two tabs, and a summary panel on the right. Header. Shows the connection name, its environment badge, its status, and when it last changed. Pause and Resume control traffic, and the … overflow menu holds the other connection-level actions. Summary panel. Stays visible on every tab.
Update the connection’s behavior. AIforWork Settings holds the provider-specific fields.Insert variables into the Message template from the chips below the editor, select Show more for the full list, and select Show preview to check the result.Select Save Changes to apply your changes.

Troubleshoot connection issues

Most failures trace to the signature, the JWT, or a reused nonce.
